Bocce is a fun summer sport: it’s leisurely yet challenging, and it’s outdoors. Bocce can be played upon any level surface by anyone who is willing to try. It is a game for all ages, gender and athletic ability. A game can be conducted between two players, or two teams of two, three, or four, perfect for a fun way to socialize. Bocce, is an ancient sport little known in the United States until around 1989 and has finally begun to take root in the American sports culture. In addition,  Bocce has also become a tournament sport. Bocce is now a part of the World Corporate Games, is an event in the Special Olympics, and is being proposed to be in the Olympics. A match is started by a randomly chosen side being given the opportunity to throw a smaller ball, the jack or pallino, from one end of the court into a zone at the far end of the court. If the first team misses twice, the other team is awarded the opportunity to place the jack anywhere they choose within the prescribed zone.

Bocce Ball Tips For More Summer Fun

1. Stay Relaxed. Bocce was invented in Italy as a game for casual gentlemen so best enjoyed when relaxed.

2. Get a Grip. It is all about the grip, this is a game that requires a soft touch.  Use your thumb and index finger to squeeze the ball while it’s cradled gently in the rest of your hand.

3. Develop a Winning Stance. The bocce ball is thrown underhand so a comfortable stance with feet shoulder's width apart will set you up for success. A good stance helps develop consistency for a variety of shot types.
