Sustainability at Sandman
The modern traveler is mindful so we are doing our best to give guests less to think about while staying at The Sandman. We implemented sustainable practices during the hotel’s renovation that allow travelers to seamlessly reduce, reuse, and recycle. Native landscaping and our bocce ball court beautified the grounds and cut back on water usage. We grow herbs at our Pool House Bar to muddle in drinks and garnish cocktails. Spa water dispensers are stationed by the pool and in the lobby for visitors to refill their bottles and stay hydrated. We monitor occupancy rates to curtail food spoilage and have our vendor deliver weekly to cut down on transit effects. Our parking lot lights are energy conscious and use efficient bulbs to safeguard guests and the environment.
The eco-friendly practices are mirrored in the guest rooms. Boxed water is available for purchase and split trash bins encourage recycling. Convenient in-shower Malin + Goetz toiletry dispensers eliminate product waste and one-use containers. Only towels left on the floor are washed so guests have the option to air-dry and reuse them. Unless otherwise requested, linens are laundered every two days and after check out. When textiles are no longer fit for guests, the linens become housekeeping rags or are donated to a local animal shelter. Our energy efficient HVAC sensors turn off when the rooms are vacant. Guests are encouraged to return key cards upon departure. All of our promotional materials are printed on recyclable paper.
There are simple ways travelers can also be more green while on vacation — from showering instead of bathing to turning off the water while they brush their teeth. Booking a nonstop flight, renting a hybrid car or using a ride share service helps offset emissions. Our wine country location is ideal for hiking and biking. The region’s farm-to-table food, award-winning wineries, and notable breweries, give guests many opportunities to support the local economy. The best souvenirs can be sourced from community artisans. Kind Traveler offers a unique service for conscious travelers. The site allows people to book a stay at The Sandman and earn a $10 discount to donate to a local charity.
